Happy NEW Year - 2011 !!

Another year begins....

I decided I'd start the year off by getting my ass 'in gear' and restarting my blog. Although I've neglected to continue with my website and/or a blog for some time, I figured now was as good of a time as any to continue on with my ramblings that pertain to the goings on in my life...

In the spirit of the new year, I'll admit, I don't have a new year's resolution. I've never really seen the point of committing to such a thing; I prefer to make a pact with myself at any point in the year and follow through with whatever that promise to myself entails. One thing is for certain, I am another year older. I don't necessarily feel any older, but I'd like to think that I've gained another year worth of wisdom/knowledge that I may draw from in the future.

Yes, I'm still training, but my competitive bodybuilding career had to temporarily come to a halt due to my actual career choice. Unfortunately, I had to face the fact that I'm not Super-woman and there was simply not enough hours in the day to further my career (education wise) and compete.
The one year hiatus from competing has been good for me both mentally and physically. It's difficult to find balance at times when you're consumed by a bodybuilding lifestyle. I have forced myself to find that balance required to maintain a semi-normal lifestyle.

Now that 2011 is here, I'll let you in on a little secret...I've spent a good part of 2010 striving to make improvements physique wise in order to compete in 2011. I've sent off my IFBB membership form with a request for not only one, but three contracts for this competitive season.

Alright...that's all for now...
I'll be back with an update this week.

All 'smiles' in NYC....

My trip to New York was fabulous! I have developed a love for the city and all that it has to offer. Given the opportunity, I would pack up my shit and move there tomorrow!!!

The NY Pro was an 'experience' to say the least. I'm not super ecstatic about the outcome, but I'm not overly disappointed either. I entered the show without any real expectations because I knew I was up against some stiff competition. I'm pretty realistic in my approach to competing however, that doesn't change the fact that I do want to qualify for the Olympia. Unfortunately, I didn't present my best package to date when I took the stage in NY, but I was thrilled to death to be standing up there because I CAN.
Backstage, I was able to visit with some friends and make some new aquaintances as well. I even got to 'pump up' with Nancy Lewis!!!
The show itself was well organized and run very efficiently...thank goodness!

After the show, we were off to Little Italy for some food!

The meal sitting in front of me was actually the third course....a buttery veal shank stuffed with Proscuitto, Provolone and spinach served with pasta....mmmm, it was so good!!!

Of course, dinner in a public place is always interrupted by those who are curious or just plain fascinated by me. These two ladies wandered over to our table to chat and pay me a compliment. It turns out that they're actually from BC and that one of them is a former bodybuilder!!

The world does get a little smaller every day, doesn't it?

Stay tuned for Part 2...coming soon :-)

Time flies....and here we are....

Judging by the date of my last post, I think it's pretty safe to say I have been slacking!!! I'm not about to apologize for the lack of updates though, I have used the last few months to withdraw from everything and focus on what was most important...my contest prep.

Yep, if you haven't seen the official IFBB competitor list for the New York Pro yet..take a look...my name is on it along with 21 other competitors.
I've spent the last four months 'riding the wave' of contest prep. I am so EXCITED to hit the stage again...its been way too long. After my less than stellar pro debut in 2007, I took some time to regroup, make improvements and mentally prepare to compete as a pro. This will actually be the first time I have stood in a line-up that isn't governed by weight restrictions. Being compared to heavyweights will be an interesting experience to say the least. As of now, I may be one of the lightest if not THE lightest competitor to enter the show this year. I may get 'out muscled' by some of the bigger gals, but I'll make up for it with my conditioning...let the chips fall where they may....I'm hoping for the best!

Speaking of my prep..DAMN! The process this time around was much different than the last. I've been known to let my weight creep up a wee bit higher than it should during the offseason, but not this past year. I have gained some serious self control and managed to keep my weight down since I last competed. I absolutely love food and I'm guilty of over-indulging on the treats I love most however, with those sugary treats comes crippling migraines afterward. I have suffered from migraines since I was eight years old. Lets just say that consuming lower GI carbs and reducing the simple sugars in my diet AND AVOIDING SUGAR BINGES has not only enabled me to keep my weight down, it has also significantly reduced the number of migraines I experienced in the last year.

Since my last update, my travels have included two trips to San Francisco, a trip to New York and a trip to Columbus to see the Arnold Classic. I have grown accustomed to travelling while dieting so, it has been a really easy adjustment each time I'm away from home. My pre-travel plans just require a little more organization, that's all. I figure, if I want to be a pro I may as well live like a pro which means sticking to a diet plan/program all year long.

Well, I did have pics that I wanted to share, but this damn thing won't let me upload them right now so, stay tuned...I'll get them up later today or tomorrow.

ok..cancel that...

I'll start by wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! This will be my final update of 2008.

I'm officially in 'holiday mode', today is my final day of work...yahoo! This year, my 'sleepy hollow like city' is actually experiencing weather that one would expect during the holiday season anywhere, but here.....we have SNOW!...and lots of it. In fact, it has been snowing here off and on for the last five days and falling constantly for the last 3 days!!! My car is easy to drive in the snow, but we have so much of it that I've been forced to park my car and upgrade to something more suitable for now.

Even with the crappy gas mileage, I think I'd like to get a truck. This could be my inner 'red-neck' speaking, but I do enjoy being able to navigate around in a vehicle that size...I can drive on or over things and not even feel it!!

And speaking of the holidays, I'm not sure what a Christmas season would be like without parties and endless party tray preparation!

I may be skilled in other areas, but the kitchen is where I do my best work :)

Ya know, even with all the parties I've attended, I'm still not filled with the so called 'Christmas spirit'. My sis, bro and I have 'opted out' of any and all family celebrations on both sides of the family. Instead, we have chosen to celebrate amongst friends (aka the riff-raff) who don't have family in the area or simply don't have any family at all. Considering this is the first Christmas without my parents together, it's been a huge adjustment and not an easy one. Fortunately, the holidays will come and go in a 'blink'....

So far, all is well with my training. Recently, I did need to take a few days off due to a pinch in my trap/neck. I was training while I was plagued by a serious head cold and somehow, I managed to hurt myself. It has healed up quickly and the residual stiffness I feel is easily fixed by a healthy dose of anti-inflams and a good warm-up at the gym before I train. You may think I'm nuts for training even though I still have some stiffness, but I assure you, the only thing that would make me crazy would be an extended period out of the gym. With all of my work/family stress I NEED an outlet and the gym is where I relieve it. Aside from stress relief, I can't afford to take extended time off from the gym with the upcoming contest season quickly approaching....I have zero time to screw around. Hell, I'll be on stage at the New York Pro in a little less than 5 months!!

As for my nose piercing...I'm still lovin'it...it has almost completely healed. The only time I KNOW it's there is when I hook it on something like a towel...that's when I get a huge reminder that it hasn't completely healed yet.

alright....that's enough outta me...happy holidays!!!

apparently I need to get back to my regular groove of updating my journal because this time around, I'm way overdue for an update. November passed me by as if I was standing still. It was a busy month of work and travel and now I'm sitting here looking at the calendar realizing the first week of December is almost over. Damn, Christmas is almost here!!!
With all of the turmoil my family has faced this year, my siblings and I have decided not to celebrate or at least not make a big deal of it. It'll be a low-keyed holiday season for us.

The final bodybuilding competition of our local season was amazing! Each year this novice show has a record number of entries and those numbers continue to increase. Pre-judging was very hectic, but at the night show, I was able to catch up with some friends during the intermission and afterward.

Of course, once I returned home from the show, I was counting down the days until my trip to Atlanta. Now that particular weekend was a blast! The nationals in the USA is a huge event, it's well attended and it showcases a ton of talent. I was pleasantly surprised! My sis and I flew to Atlanta together and met up with friends once we arrived. My girl Melody had arrived the day after us; when she and I met up at pre-judging, we were practically wearing identical outfits...she and I think
a lot alike so this really wasn't a surprise!

After the eventful weekend, a few of us went out to celebrate my b'day on the Sunday night. We had some good laughs and good food as well.

Sometimes, I have a difficult time comprehending the fact that I'm already 32! I swear, as I get older each year passes faster. And speaking of getting older, we also celebrated Dreu's b'day (my bro's girlfriend)at the end of November as well.

I do have more candids from the weekend which I'll post next time.
Enjoy your day!

hhhmmm where to begin....
October went out with a 'bang' this year...Halloween was an absolute blast! It has been a few year's since I last put on a costume so this year, I decided to go for it.
My sis and I dressed up as twin referee's and attended a Halloween party..oh what fun! If my memory serves me correctly, the last time I put on a costume I actually dressed up as Xena - the warrior princess. I think I had actually forgotten that Halloween is just as much fun for adults as it is for children. I'm so glad I didn't skip out on the festivites. My sister and I are already planning costume ideas for next year.

My friend Jen and I had made plans prior to Halloween to start off November in a bold new way so, we opted to get our noses pierced November 1st. She and I had both been considering the idea for some time, but neither of us had gone through with it. Going together made it fun! I had my nose pierced twice when I was in my teens, but I took both out long ago. The pain of the actual procedure only lasted for a split second however, it brought back some memories for me. I think Jen and I were in shock that we had gone through with it..we even had the piercing done on the same side of our nose......goofy girls! Fortunately, the piercing is healing quickly. Every time I bump my nose I remember what I've done. Just tonight, I was in the gym training and I went to wipe my face, somehow, I completely forgot about the new piercing in my nose and the jolt of pain I felt definitely got my attention. Apparently I need some time to adjust :)

In other news, my training is going VERY well! I'm happy with the progress I have made. Taking this past year off was probably the smartest thing I could have done. The time away from competing has enabled me to regroup a bit. My 'competitive fire' is definitely burning these days.

The 2009 IFBB schedule is out. I'm aiming for the New York Pro in May!

As of now, I'm definitely counting down the days until I leave for the nationals in Atlanta, only 17 more days to go! I'm sure it'll be a memorable weekend :) And speaking of weekends, once again I'm going out of town. This upcoming weekend is the final competition of our 2008 season here in BC so, I'm headed off to judge the show.
I'll be back with 'candids' after the weekend.
